The hero shot. Coins on a real table, under or beside minis, with a phone mid-tap. Warm lamp light, dice and a sheet in frame, hands in shot. This is the one image that sells the whole idea.

What is TokenTap5e

The tablehas weight again.

Small NFC coins sit under your miniatures. Tap one with your phone and it tells you what it is: an item to claim, a hero to bind, a stranger to name. The campaign builds itself around what you touched, and the coin stays on the table where the DM put it.

The whole kit, laid out. Item tokens in their case, the coins beside them, a mini or two and a phone. The shot that shows a buyer what the product actually is.

What is on the table

The tokens

Four kinds, one tap each

Item tokens are the premium pieces. Hero, NPC and enemy coins are flat markers that sit under a miniature. Tap any of them and it gives up exactly what the DM prepared, and nothing they did not.

At the table The coin stays where the DM put it.

And the library is already stocked

Prep is where campaigns quietly die. So you are not transcribing stat blocks at midnight: search it, pick what the party finds, and it is on the token before they reach for it. Third party books toggle on one at a time, so your table runs on what it owns and nothing else.

Core content runs on the 5e SRD. Advanced 5e: Monstrous Menagerie from EN Publishing and Kobold Press titles including Tome of Beasts 1 to 3, Creature Codex and Vault of Magic are each a separate toggle, so you enable only what your table owns.

Two sides of the same table

One token, two jobs.

The DM prepares what a token holds. The player finds out by touching it. Neither one needs the other's screen.

For the DM

You decide what a token holds, and when it stops being a secret.

Assign an item, a hero or an NPC to a token before the session. Set it on the table when the moment comes. What the party learns is what you have chosen to reveal, and nothing more.

What you do

  • 01Load a token with an item, a face or a place from the codex.
  • 02Put it under a miniature and let the party notice it.
  • 03Track the fight while the table rolls its own dice.
  • 04Publish the chronicle when the campaign ends.

The Crown Jewel

Your campaign, held in coin

The Campaign Coaster is a physical artifact that carries the full story of your campaign. Tap it to open the chronicle: arcs, chapters, fallen heroes, key moments, the NPCs who shaped the story, and the players who were there for all of it. It grows with every session the DM logs. Share it with your party, pass the coin around the table, or display it on your shelf when the campaign ends. Once it's written, it stays written. No subscription required to keep the story alive.

⚜️

The Campaign Chronicle

A public, always-live page that renders your campaign story cinematically. Arc headers, chapter beats, the NPCs who mattered, and those who fell along the way. No login needed. Tap and the story is there.

A campaign chronicle showing an arc title, a chapter, and the NPCs and heroes tied to it
Arcs and chapters, written as the campaign happened. Everyone who mattered to a beat is named under it.
The party section of a campaign chronicle, one card per hero
The party that walked the road, with the titles they earned and the people who played them.

Photograph needed

The campaign coaster itself, in a hand or on a shelf, with a phone beside it showing the Chronicle open. A real photograph, not a screen capture. This is the keepsake argument, so it should read as an object someone kept rather than a product listing.

What arrives

Sixteen tokens. Sixteen coins. One box.

The Core Pack carries sixteen item tokens in a reusable case and sixteen flat coins for your heroes, the people they meet and the things they fight. It runs a table of four without rationing. The Expansion Pack is sixteen more tokens, weighted the other way, for a campaign that has started handing out relics. Buy both and you land at eight of every rarity.

Sixteen coins, only in this pack

Start here. The coins come once, because they recycle: an enemy coin is goblins this week and cultists next week, and a hero coin stays bound for the whole campaign. Items are the ones that keep landing.

An expansion, not a starting point. No coins: you already have those. Rares and very rares get locked into inventories permanently, so demand for them only grows.

Free shipping is within the US. Every pack includes 30 days of DM Pro, so every token and coin in the box works from the first session.

Common Questions

Good questions. Here are the answers.

Do players need an account?

No account is needed to tap a token and see an item. Free player accounts unlock the party codex, NPC notes, and basic character info. Player Pro adds HP tracking, death saves, spell slots, currency, and the full combat suite. Your DM's Party Plan covers everyone at the table automatically.

Which phones support NFC?

Most modern smartphones support NFC. On iPhone, background NFC tag scanning (tap without opening an app) requires iPhone XS, XR, or newer running iOS 14 or later. iPhone 7, 8, and X require the NFC Tools app or similar to scan tags. The majority of Android devices from the last several years support NFC natively. If your phone supports contactless payments, it very likely supports TokenTap5e tokens.

Can I use TokenTap5e without physical tokens?

The core experience is built around the physical tap. That moment when a player holds something real and taps it in is what makes TokenTap5e different. There is no online only mode and there will not be one: removing the coin would remove the reason this exists. Physical tokens are available through our Etsy shop.

Do I need the tokens?

Yes, the tap is how items, NPCs, and enemies reach your players, and it is the part no app can do on its own. Everything else is built around it: HP and spell slot tracking, initiative, enemy lore, collaborative session notes, and the campaign chronicle that becomes your table's history. Plenty of tools will hold your character sheet. Only this one puts the magic item in your hand.

What rulebooks are supported?

The core bestiary runs on D&D 5e content. DMs can optionally enable Advanced 5e: Monstrous Menagerie (EN Publishing), and individual Kobold Press titles (Tome of Beasts, Tome of Beasts 2, Tome of Beasts 3, Creature Codex, and Vault of Magic), each as a separate toggle. D&D 2024 support is on the roadmap.

Where do I get the tokens?

Physical NFC tokens are available through the Reforged & Refined Etsy shop. Starter Packs, Rarity Packs, and Campaign Coasters are all available. Each token ships ready to register and tap.

Is my campaign data private?

Yes. Your campaign, party, and journal entries are private to your account. The Campaign Chronicle is accessible via a unique link. Share it with your players or keep it to yourself. No account is needed to view a chronicle you've shared.
